Wuhan megalopolis, Changsha, Zhuzhou and Xiangtan urban group were determined to be a comprehensive reform trial region of resources-saving and environment-friendly society by National Development and Reform Committee by the end of 2007. Wuhan currently has officially started this construction. This paper analyzes the connotation, studies the advantages, disadvantages, opportunities and challenges, and presents a strategy to construct the resources-saving and environment-friendly society in Wuhan megalopolis.

The farmlands as a key agricultural resource are a vital base for national crops and agricultural products quality. This assessment of farmlands quality is chiefly applied on agriculture and land policies. This paper by giving an introduction to the assessment history since 1949 and to the main types of farmlands quality, analyzes the major issues, presents that the assessment of farmlands quality shall comprehensively take into consideration the economy, policies and land pollution, which accordingly need to establish standards and dynamic assessment mechanism at different levels. The final assessments from the farmlands resources administration shall be shared by the public and be applied to make policies.

The urban fringe, a transition between city and countryside, is characterized by high market utilization extent, intensified utilization and frequent circulation. Due to its complicated land types, the urban fringe is not well utilized, or even wasted, or overly converted into industrial development lands. This paper summarizes the major issues in sustainable development of urban fringe, and presents some suggestions, aiming at enhancing urban fringe land utilization, combining human economic activities, land utilization and eco-environmental construction together so as to achieve a target of plowland protection, construction land protection and eco-environmental protection.
